he 9th East African military games have successfully concluded at the Nelson Mandela stadium, Namboole in Kampala on Wednesday.
Rwanda won three of the five sporting events at the games to take the overall bragging rights.
Rwanda clinched gold in football, handball and basketball.
In the closing football match, defending champions in the football event, Kenya played to a goal-less draw with the hosts, Uganda.
The result meant Rwanda wins the football title on 7 points with Uganda and Kenya sharing 6 points apiece.
Kenya won the men and women cross country, Uganda won netball whilst Rwanda took football, handball and basketball
Uganda State minister of Defence, General Jeje Odongo witnessed the closing ceremony.
He appreciated the entire organization of the event with a call for the common people in community to further engage in supporting these games.
The military games not only help to foster unity among the member states but also help the engaging personalities keep fit. I urge the wannainchi (common people) to support the games.
Uganda Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Brig. Katumba Wamala appealed to the member nations to continue with the spirit of supporting these games.
Robert Omunuk of Simba finished the football top scorer with 3 goals as Musa Mudde was voted the most Valuable player.
Uganda’s Alicia Wasagali was the top scorer in netball with 136 goals but Tanzania’s Nasra Hassan was voted the netball MVP.
Private Rugira of Rwanda scored 37 goals in handball to finish the top scorer while countryman, Paul Muhawena was awarded the Most Valuable handball player.Rwanda will host the 2016 games in Kigali.
